Though peanut allergies affect just 0.6 percent of Americans 19, food allergies can present both questions and challenges for food manufacturers. Peanut and peanut butter innovation and offerings continue to increase because consumers love them and because of their culinary versatility. Manufacturers and companies can meet that demand by having a program in place to effectively manage food allergies.

Food Allergy Research and Resource Program (FARRP)

FARRP was established in 1995 as a cooperative venture between the University of Nebraska and seven founding industry charter members. Today, FARRP has more than 70 member companies. The organization works to provide the food and agricultural biotechnology industries with credible information, expert opinions, tools and services relating to allergenic foods.

Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE)

FARE strives to protect those with food allergies through providing evidence-based education and resources, advocating at all levels of government and investing in research. Their framework for food processors, “Components of an Effective Allergen Control Plan,” provides helpful information to companies about how to protect consumers from food allergens.

National Peanut Board

The National Peanut Board is available to answer food and peanut allergy questions from manufacturers. The Board has conducted trainings for customer service representatives and provided information for company and brand websites.
